A teacher who is oh 'sew sweet'..

Hi there

It has been perfect card making weather here in Sydney lately. We have had so much rain and cold weather, my backyard is beginning to resemble a swimming pool. Needless to say we haven't ventured outside very often!

Today's card came about from a request from a friend. She wanted a thank you card for her daughter's textile and design teacher. The teacher had recently had an operation and was absent from school, but since she has a group of year 12 students doing the HSC this year, she has had them at her house each afternoon, sewing and finishing of their projects.

The Sew Suite range was therefore perfect for this project! Some of the colours in these papers are a little too much for me. So I went with the Tempting Turquoise piece, that has paper patterns and sewing instructions printed onto it. Very suitable I thought, and a much more subtle look! I matched this with some polka dot Tempting Turquoise DSP.

You can see some of the detail in the DSP here.

I stamped the tape measure image onto some Daffodil Delight CS to separate the two papers and to make it look like a real tape measure. The dress form image was stamped onto acetate using Staz On to accentuate the see through frame. I added some turquoise and yellow buttons to the button card, and of course had to have a sewing machine. I coloured the sewing machine using my Aquapainter and Watercolour Wonder Crayons. I finished it all of with some Seam Binding bows, some yellow and turquoise flowers and a lovely pearl trinket pin.

I decorated the inside very simply, using a strip of polka dot paper and another sewing machine.

I am very happy with how this card turned out. I hope the recipient likes it just as much!

Now my friend has given me the task of making a birthday card with a cricket theme.....HELP! Anyone have any suggestions? Please feel free to share!

  2. Your card is quite lovely Sarah, and I'm sure the teacher is going to love it! You've done a fabulous job of making the bright colours appear more subtle.

Sorry no help with cricket at all! There was a cricket stamp set though, perhaps ask around and borrow?
